TwinSpace Project "Let's travel!"

TwinSpace Project "Let's travel!"
The TwinSpace Project "Let's travel! Mailing Europe" has become an outcome which –like the Project Blog- contains a very representative visualisation of team working and communication: more than 300 pupils’ and more than 40 teachers’ profiles, mailbox and a collection of all project activities and mobilities (files, sound and video archive; pictures galleries, blogs and wikis).

"Who wants to be a traveler?"

"Who wants to be a traveler?"
The famous television show "Who wants to be a Millionaire" with its multiple-choice questions has been used as a model and framework to create a quiz, related with our home countries as a tourist destination. Most partners have created products on this format.

Radio Clype Programmes

Radio Clype Programmes
Two different kinds of radio programmes were made during the two years. One during the mobilities to Paris (January 2011, January 2012): French students interviewed their guests. The other programme was made in each country and sent to France: description of touristic places and recipes. These programmes were carried out within the studio of Radio Clype in Paris.

Calendar “Let’s Travel 2012!”

Calendar “Let’s Travel 2012!”
The Calendar “Let’s Travel 2012!” is a mosaic of the European variety of regional cultures. Students of Graphic and Design of the Italian school coordinated, developed and designed the calendar by placing the information and images prepared by all partners. Each country created two pages (two months), one on a significant local event or feast and one on tourism promotion.

Plants travel around Europe

Plants travel around Europe
Convinced of the importance of natural and ecotourism, the CD “Plants travel around Europe” has been conceived as a particular landscape of our project, with its genuine flavors. It contains a description of the local vegetation and traditional plants, some of them used in the kitchens of our countries. Photographs illustrate the descriptions and bibliography enables a further investigation.

"Money turn the world turn around" (Hatay, Turkey)

"Money turn the world turn around" (Hatay, Turkey)
The Turkish team published the brochure "Money makes the world turn around" with detailed tourist information to the Turkish province of Hatay and its capital Antioch, and some more general information to the cities, towns and villages where the other European partner schools are located: places of interest, food, accommodation, mini dictionary, etc.

Film on Sustainable Tourism

Film on Sustainable Tourism
One of the aspects of tourism is eco tourism or sustainable tourism. Three schools (in Spain, Portugal and France) have each shot a short film to show through different examples how sustainable tourism develops in their country and how sustainable development can be coped with, taking into account the difficulties and problems each country or city meets.

Comenius Song "Let's travel!"

Comenius Song "Let's travel!"
The Comenius song was composed (music and lyrics in French) by a group of French students and a teacher to welcome their guests on the first mobility to Paris. It was then used as a common link and a sort of hymn during the mobilities. It was translated into English by the Polish team and then into Catalan by the Spanish team; it was sung on the day of Europe, May 9th 2012, during the last mobility to Spain.

The Garden in Portugal

The Garden in Portugal
Although uncompleted, coordinators from the seven partner schools decided to maintain the Garden in Portugal as one of the most emotive outcomes of our project. Seeds of plants from the local flora in each country were sent to the school in Portugal. Students of Tourism and Gardening from Ferreira do Zêzêre collected and let them germinate. They created a greenhouse, which was unfortunately seriously damaged by a destructive tornado at the beginning of 2011. A big part of the garden got lost.

Evaluation Questionnaires and Power Point Presentation

Evaluation Questionnaires and Power Point Presentation
Three model questionnaires for mobilities were made, separately for guests (teachers and students) and hosts (students). Teachers and students who took part in mobility filled these questionnaires after each meeting and conclusions were compiled by Polish teachers to make our work better and more efficient. The most important conclusions from questionnaires were summed in the Power Point presentation which was presented during the last mobility in Spain, were all coordinators from partner schools were present.

7 Different Kinds of Tourism in 7 Different Countries

7 Different Kinds of Tourism in 7 Different Countries
The seven partner schools of the Project “Let’s Travel!” did of Tourism a topic to investigate and analyse. They found out the characteristics, the means of transport, the baggage, the accommodation, the duration and the money required for seven different kinds of tourism and tourists in the seven partnership countries. They produced a considerable quantity of documents with information and pictures on activities related to cultural, historical, religious, natural, health, sport and educational tourism.

Pen Friends' Activity

The Pen Friends' activity has produced uncountable results: from students’ profiles, introduction letters, descriptions of places and travel journals until spontaneous chatting to mutual knowledge and travel –mobility- experiences. The most part of these students’ writings can be found on the Project Blog, on the Blogs in Foreign Languages, on TwinSpace and on Facebook.

Summary

"We aim to develop a meaningful partnership, including the new partners of the EU zone, to work together on common activities. The partnership will encourage mutual understanding of travelling styles and will aim to develop increased awareness of costs and benefits of tourism. We will encourage mobility within our own organisations and ensure that this mobility is organized in such a way as to maximise the benefit for both students and teachers.

Through our web sites, workshops, dictionaries, pen friend activities and regular communications among students we will encourage the development of skills in a range of foreign languages and increase the value which students place on the learning of foreign languages. We also aim to improve employability in our young people through improved team working and communication skills as well as increased confidence and independence.

Through our activities we will identify the local community and the schools involved as regions of tourism and the manner in which organisations ensure travelling as a learning opportunity. The aim is to help schools to ensure learning opportunities for everybody and to meet the expectations of students thus improving behavior and the quality of learning."

Objectives

  1. To develop a two years partnership program that will enrich the partner institutions, their students and their regions.
  2. To raise awareness of tourism as an alternative and an instrument to discover the cultural, natural, ecological and scientific aspects of our own and that of others.
  3. To provide a new perspective of diversity, differences and variety to rich integration through it.
  4. To use tourism opportunities to improve students foreign languages command and ICT skills to develop entrepreneurial skills.
  5. To provide a variety of opportunities for the students and staff of the participating institutions to interact and collaborate.
  6. To share good practice between institutions concerning learning, teaching and evaluating experiences.
  7. To increase the self-confidence, open-mindedness, team work spirit and problem-solving skills of the students.
  8. To foster the value of cooperation between European schools and regions.

Cooperation and communication

From the very first beginning mobilities had been foreseen as an efficient frame for coordination and communication. During the nine mobility meetings of the Comenius project “Let’s Travel!” at the seven participating schools, there were both intensive and affective personal communication between students, parents and teachers and effective work sessions for planning and coordination. At home, the educational community benefited from the ICT resources to coordinate and communicate. Contact has been very frequently maintained on the Internet through emails and messages. Indeed, further than for visualisation and dissemination of activities and outcomes, the coordinating Spanish partner school on Minorca created and administrated the Project Blog for communication, cooperation and motivation. In spring 2011 the European coordinator created a TwinSpace project (“Let’s Travel! Mailing Europe”) for the same purposes. This platform also offered the opportunity of holding online chats. Students and teachers have also spontaneously communicated in other more extended and synchronic social networks like Facebook. There they also became friends, deepened their friendships and created Comenius networking groups of students and teachers.

Work plan and tasks

The work plan and the tasks have just slightly changed in the Comenius project “Let’s Travel!”. There were ten schools on application stage and the project was finally granted in six European schools and in Turkey. In the first project meeting in Flensburg, Germany, coordinators decided just to overtake one of the tasks of the schools which the project was not admitted at: the Polish school partner developed the evaluation activities through its questionnaires and a PowerPoint Presentation. The school in Paris did not just one, but four radio Clype programs. The school in Umbria, Italy, created not just the calendar “Let’s Travel 2012!”, but also the project logo, which was not foreseen as one of its tasks on application stage. The Portuguese school in Ferreira do Zêzêre had big problems with the Garden because of a destructive hurricane, and the major part of the seeds sent by the other six partner school for the garden get lost. The Turkish tasks didn’t change in its contents, by slightly concerning to the format. On one hand the school in Iskenderun analysed and investigated on different kinds of Tourism and all school partners developed documents and videos on them. On the other hand the Turkish team published a brochure on Tourism in all regions. The Spanish coordinating school on Minorca Island added to its tasks the one of creating and maintaining, not just the Project Blog, but also the TwinSpace project “Let’s Travel! Mailing Europe” for cooperative work, interaction and communication. Partner schools did nine mobility meetings in total. France and Italy offered to hold two of them, so that each partner school could visit all other countries. The other five partner schools organized one general meeting each.
