Iskenderun Istiklal Makzume Anatolian High School - Turkey

Our school, İstiklal Makzume Anatolian High School, started its educational life in 1986 after having been built by the İstiklal Makzume Waqf and donated to the National Ministry of Education.

Our school , a coeducational one with 524 student,42 teachers,3 vice-principals and a principal,i s one of the best schools in Turkey having brilliant degrees in O.S.S, University Enterance Exam,held by our graduation students,who have come first twice in O.S.S and get brilliant degrees every year.

English and German are taught as foreign languages in our school,in which Science-Maths and Turkish-Maths are intensively given for further education.

Iskenderun is considered to be a modern and industrial city,with the second biggest iron and steel factory situated by the İskenderun Bay on the lower slopes of The Nur Mountains with hot climate every seasons.

History. İskenderun, a lovely green bay city, was founded in B.C.333,when Alexander the Great,the king of Macedonia,defeated the Persian King,Darius III in the war called Issos in history.
Iskenderun also hosted to some Empires in history,such as Roman,Byzantium and Otoman Empires.The city has been invaded several times throughout history owing to being both geographic and strategical region.The city,which was controlled by English and Ftench troops during the first world war,was added to Türkish Republic with a treaty made in 1939.

Tourism. Iskenderun has a long shore about 30 kms.Along the shore, a lot of sites which have summer houses where people from inner regions of Turkey come to spend their summer holiday ,beaches and restaurants take place.Arsuz is a lovely touristic center.about 30 kms away.I has sandy and sunny beaches and souvenir shops.To a Myth, Seleucous I,the founder of the ancient city landed in BC 300and married the daughter of Demitrious,Stratonica, in We have an ancient building such as Arsuz.Recropol with mosaic worksbelonging to Rosus antic city in the middle age,Sütunlu Harbour belonging to Hellenisticperiod,The Mario Hana,a church built in 1778 and restored in the 19 th century.The VirginMary pool,where The Virgin mary is supposed to have had a bath is considered to be a holly place by Christians.every year,a religious ceremony is done in here on August 14.Other ruins are Salen Castle,Bahras Castle,Yuannis column,Payas Castle and Cin castle. Isos ruins, Mancınık church. Some sightseeings are Sogukoluk, Gülcihan, Çataloluk, Nergislik,Alanand Sarımazı.

Culture. 1975 and 1976 were the years of migration from rural areas to urban.The population doubled in two years,which had a great effect on the culture of the region.As Hataywhich was honoured with ‘Peace City’By UNESCO,territory of İskenderun,has hosted to several civilizations throughout history ,people from different origins and belieflive peacefully.It has maintained its structure with Multi-national,multi-religional and multi-cultural structure.It has several religious assemblies such as, Geer-ortadoks, Syria-Ortadoks, Christian-Protestant, Armanian and other small assamblies which form the multi-structure .

Music. The taste of music is formed by folk dance and folk dance ,which was partly influenced by the music of immigrants from rural area.

Economy. Iskenderun was a small town until 1974,in which Iron and Steal factory,the biggest one in this sector.The following years,superphosphate,margarine,dry-food,flour,tomato paste canned food and cotton gin factories were built.It has the fourth biggest harbour with the capacity of 8.7 million tons of ship loading.Fishing is another remarkable sector the residents deal with to live on.

Agriculture. As It has mediterranean climate,agriculture plays an important role on its economy.Various crops are grown, especially citrus fruit;orange, grapefruit, angalina and lemon.And vegetables;leek,pepper,tomato,aubergine and marrow.
